pier gaff

hi

am a bit of a cheapo ... does anybody know where i can get a rope / pier gaff ...

apparently it ranges from $20 at a tackleshop at hervey bay, to the advertised $75 on the net ...

Make ure own? Either by an extendable pole and stick a normal gaff in (or use rope) Or you can use a big 16/0 hook or something and use rope or a pole.

Yeah the Tackle shop at the Pier at Hervey bay sells them, a sharpened grappling hook on a rope. Seen the locals use them, they make it look easy, I reckon a lot of practice makes it look that way!

have seen another one used designed to slide down the line and clamp around a fishes head. people were using the while cliff fishing in WA. was so much easier than the benno method of handlining them up! :laugh: would be relatively simple to design one as well i would reckon.

that's exactly what i'm looking for ... but $75 a pop quite expensive though ...

anywhere cheaper?

though i could actually get a few large 16/0 hooks and put them on one of those clips for rope climbing clip secured with rope to slide down the main fishing line ... good idea shrimpo ...

if you are going to fish urangan pier dont worry about it there is allways some expert out there willing to gaff your fish for you
