Internet Explorer warning issue

Recommended Posts

This new box at the bottom, 2 scroll bars on the right, losing the top of the page and having to reload from favourites, slow scrolling etc etc. How do I disable it? IE7 Vista, not changing, bandaid on a spurting artery. Did do a more detailed post in the website category but said it was locked, lost all my sparkling prose! You get the picture, and I'm surely not the only one, please remove to a better category, couldn't find one, or at least I thought I had but it didn't let me post! All the best, Kev xxx (Whinging Pom, but only when I have a valid point! ;) ) And who is AFO to recommend I upgrade my browser?

No thanks, all other MBs and forums work fine......Including the porn ;)

Can't use my arrow keys, that's the main annoyance, and the losing the top half of the page, no click for latest posts, have to reload from favourites. Oops! it just went straight to the bottom of the page for no reason....

Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and lower is not supported worldwide and hence not on the AFO site. Microsoft have publically called for all users of these browsers to at least upgrade to IE8 or even better the fantastic IE9.

If you continue to experience problems with IE8 or IE9 please let us know. It is always good to have a screenshot as well to help us debug any issues you face.

(By the way, writing this post on IE8 with no problems).

I`m using IE8 and the above has occurred since the chat box has been put up.

when the chat box has been unhooked?? at various times in the last few days(shop/chatbox problems ??),the problem has disappeared, then has reappeared when the chat box has been enabled again.

cheers

I have the exact problem and yes it is very annoying, I'm not a fan.

Again this is of no use, we still don't know what the problem is. We can only fix something if we know what the problem is.

Can someone do some screenshots and provide the information required for an error report.

Easiest way to do a screen shot is to press the "prt sc" button on your keyboard. This stands for Print Screen ans is located up on the top right hand of the keyboard. You will then need to paste it into a Paint (a program that comes with Windows). Then save that as a jpeg :)

Or if you're on Windows 7 just use the cool Snipping Tool, this does screenshots very easily.

If you're on Firefox there are lots of extensions that do screenshots (eg Fireshot)

yes, nothing will happen when you just press the button. What it has done is 'captured' the screen as an image, but you now need to paste it into Paint. You can do this by going Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint and then once that program opens press Ctrl V (which is a shortcut for Paste).

Then all you need to do is click File > Save.

The only issue I have is the menu links move about up in the header.

When it moves the banner is lost at the same time.

The 2 pics show normal and after a page refresh using Firefox 5

Cheers, that is I believe a separate issue, which we will be attending too in the not too distant future.

Guys I know some of you have tried to explain as best you can, but this website is a complex engine.

The level of info we have without a screen shot is essentially the same as calling a mechanic and saying "hey mate, my car is is making a funny noise, what do you reckon it is"?.

My point is, bare with us, give webby as much info as possible and these issues will get resolved. We dont "plan" to make things annoying for you. On the contrary the number one motivation behind upgrades and a stupid number of unpaid hours spent behind the scenes is to try and make the site MORE user friendly.

The WWW is a tricky realm with all these browsers etc exhibiting different attributes etc and we do our best with limited resources and time to provide you all with a FREE service.

We appreciate patience in these matters.

Cheers.

Angus

No worries :) It's just hard to figure something out without being able to see people's screens.

Basically, what your image shows is a warning displaying at the top of the page. This warning is in regard to your internet browser you are using. Basically, if you are running Internet Explorer 7 (or lower) or are running IE9 or IE8 in compatibility mode you would have seen this warning.

We have removed this recommended warning for now, but if you were seeing this warning you are strongly recommended to upgrade your version of Internet Explorer for your own security on the internet, plus the newer browsers are alot faster.

Hi, then make sure you are not viewing AFO with Compatability Mode enabled B)

Click the Compatibility View button that is located directly to the right side of the address bar next to the Refresh button.

Or, on the Tools menu, click to select the option Compatibility View. If the Tools menu is not displayed, press ALT to display the Tools menu.

  • 2 weeks later...

Any news on a fix for Vista & IE7? Or am I being forced into IE8 unlike any of the other MBs I frequent? Got shares in it? Loving the MB B) , appreciate everyone's work B)B)B) , but cannot fully participate as it drives me NUTS! ;) (Just had to wait for 2 minutes looking at a trailer ad then scroll up and down on BOTH(!) right hand toolbars to eventually get me "reply post" back.....Posting now to save anymore wasted effort....All the best xxxx And no instant scrolling on the up/down keys is driving me insane.....Like having a reliable car that then starts going wrong for no logical reason when you upgrade the air cleaner...Looks fancy, but doesn't really improve the performance. Or is it just me with no friends....Probably! :P

Again, as we said before you need to update your internet browser. IE7 was superceded in 2009 over 2 years ago!!

IE7 is 5 years old (which in technology terms is archaic), it is outdated, does not comply with web standards and is also not very secure. Microsoft recommends you upgrade, and so does AFO, even for the sake of the security of your computer.

I am not sure what you have against upgrading to IE8 or even better IE9? IE9 is actually now one of the fastest and most secure browsers.

Simple answer is to upgrade to IE9. You will experience an even better and faster experience, or if you don't want to us IE install Chrome or Firefox.
