What shark is this?

Caught this shark while on a weeks fishing trip. Caught it on a small live bait while targeting sharks around peel island. Ate up lovely came in at 71.5cm. Just don't know what species it Is haha probably very common. Thanks

Pretty sure that's a very rare Latimor Shark. You ate it you say? Best be getting to the Hospital as it contains a bacteria that eats your stomach from the inside out. Takes about 4 weeks for it to take effect. Once the doctors confirm what is wrong with you Fisheries will get involved and you will be facing a massive fine for killing a no-take fish. Hope it was worth it.

All of the above is not true, but could be. Please do not take and eat a fish you can not identify. For your own safety and the safety of a possibly rare fish.

Bit harsh Wayne.

It obviously isn't a great white, grey nurse or sawfish and is under 1.5m so nothing wrong with taking an otherwise unidentified shark for a feed.

To be fair I think very few people here can reliably distinguish one kind of whaler to another, other than the bull shark.
