queensland Flathead Hunting

With the calmer conditions this morn I decided to head out and find some Flatties. Spent the morning drifting the edges of the coomera river casting ecogear ck40's onto the bank and dragging them back in through to the deep and got 5 smallish bream and 7 flathead with the best going 70cm and was the best one I have landed in a while so I was pretty stoked.

hahaha...Dostylz that is happy but worried as a boat just screamed past and was waiting for the shutter click over as my SLR sat on the end of my kayak ready to fall overboard

I have definately had better results on the ck and is quickly become a favourite. They seem to produce a better calibre fish than the sx40's for me but one of my favourites is the sx60. Big bream love em.

Great looking lizard there...

I have never caught a fish on a hardbody yet, but I thnk they could be as I dont think I have ever tied one on my line. Might have to give them a go now though.

Both those colours pictured have also snagged some good bass and small jacks so they are good to have in the arsenal.

Mate im a huge fan of the CK40's as well. I think the larger profile but great action is the go for fish looking for a slightly bigger feed.

I just picked up a CK50 and looking forward to giving it a bash

Righto then, stop talking in code, for those of us who chase real sized fish with real sized lures, what is and who makes, a CK40. (I do know what and SX40 is, its japanese for ripping up $50 notes whilst standing in a cold shower)

It is a chubby style lure witha tight wobble

The only small lures I have are some strike kings I got from Zimman in his sale last year, so all the codes are double dutch to me.

Went down the coast today and fished a creek near my work and pulled out a 52cm flathead and it is freshwater. The fish had an orange belly and the inside of its mouth was orange too. Does anyone know if this normal colouration for freshwater flathead?

yes that is what they are like from the fresh , well i know the ones i catch at crosby have the same orangey yellowy belly , weird how they do that in the fresh hey !!

mate i got one from camerons rocks that had a bit of bright orange on its belly, just around the edges. dunno if he spent alot of time upstream but it should be salty enough in that area so close to the mouth
