Some questions on Bass...

Hey guys!

I was taking a trip around the site, and noticed that the FOTM was Australian Bass. Now, Dan recently told me that the Bass season is closed... This is where it gets confusing for me! Firstly, what does that mean for fishing? Where can I go for Bass without getting thrown in the lock up? Secondly, when is this Bass season? And finally, is it only illegal if you posess the bass, or if you are fishing for them?

Any help in the matter would be appreciated =)

closed bass season is from 1st june till the 30th august each year. This does not apply to impoundments as the bass in there dont breed, they need to get to the brackish water to breed same as barras. You can still fish in these streams but are not supposed to target bass.

Excellent! So if I went fishing and 'accidently' caught a Bass, took a photo, and released it wouldn't matter? I guess the crucial thing here is that you have to realease them!

If you get caught with a bass in your possession near a stream you will be in trouble. So if you decide to keep one from the impoundment dont pass to close to any streams on the way home.

they are supposed to be returned immediately so you may attract a fine for stopping to photograph it.

Yes, if you accidentally caught one, you could argue your point to a fisheries inspector, but you'd probably lose...

Also, ethics have got to come into it. Why target Bass when they are breeding?

Above dam walls though, the Bass start to school up this time of year and cricket scores are not uncommon (read 50+ fish in a day!). If you hit a good school, they will take anything.

So you don't have to forget about targeting Bass altogether

I caught about 40 on saturday at somerset so this is true I dont have any photos yet till Harry emails them to me and we got some bigguns but I will leave this month to someone else.Goodluck
