Gold Coast Bassin!

Well I've been hitting up stacks of bass in the yak since the season opened.

My theory was to hit them hard whilst their still in schooling mode before

they scatter to start the trip back upstream. Knowing to well that they were

still hanging in the brackish areas made them an ezy target so with the help

off my trusty fish finder it wasn't long before Bass were slapping the side

of the yak. Locating bait schools near a bottle neck section of the river saw

small schools of bass between 3 and 5 per group passing through the

transducer beam and at times even up to a dozen or more fish per school.

I have a bad addiction to surface luring so it was the "go too" lures in the

collection but in a short time I soon realised that a different approach was

needed as I couldn't tempt them up from the 3+m that they were cruising in.

The next step was to try some soft plastics after doing well with them before

the season closed I tied on a 3" Gulp pumpkinseed fry rigged weedless and

weightless.

The retrieve started out fast ripping the rod 3 of 4 times before

taking up the slack which accounted for plenty of Bass but most times the SP

was running way to shallow due to the unweighted presentation. Slowing the

retrieve down and doing the "wacky worm" saw the SP get taken most times on

the drop or very shortly after contact with the bottom sure the method is

very productive but very slow waiting up to 20 seconds or more for it to sink

through the water column,boring!

Ratting through the tackle trays looking at bibbed lures to do the work had

the grey matter crunching on colours, sizes, diving depths and so on before

it struck me like a bolt of lightening after a small baitfish fluttered

around near the yak. "Match the Hatch" you idiot! Easily over looked when

concentrating on what has proven it's self before. I knew that the choice

had to be as natural as possible and also needed to get down and of cause

profile was important, "G vibe" was the answer so on went a black/silver

pattern.

Bass after Bass nearly 1 fish per cast was caught using a very slow rolling

retrieve. So over the duration of maybe 15 visits to the same spot using the

same lure choice has seen almost a 100 landed. Most bass were around the mid

to upper 30's with the odd bigger fish throwin in largest going 42cms.

The best capture on my latest trip(13 bass in total) was a solid healthy

41cm Bass with a tag! I was keen to get home after that one so I could ring

through the details and after a short chat with "Bill" from the number on the

tag(Suntag I think?) I will soon be receiving my very own tags so I too can

be apart of the tagging program(not that I know very much about tagging?)but

I'm keen to learn!

Anyways just thought I would share what's been happening in my neck of the

river!

Thanks for reading....

Thanx for reading Guy's!

Hulk: it helps to have as many different plans(ABCDandZ) up your sleeve when it comes to fishing(not saying that they will all work) just that being flexible in your approach can make the differents.

jigman72: Well done 24 bass a session sounds like you don't need know my fishing location. No offence!

Dino: I can almost say "I'm over seeing Bass".

Davo_Dinkum: I too traveled many K's upstream into the fresh to take alook at some of my "summer" spots but the further up I went the less fish I saw.

Also I forgot to mention in my report that all fish were released!

OK I'm not to sure what I missed here but again I would like to thank those for taking the time to read my report and to the mods(ellicat) for sorting out the trash talk.

I would also like to add that I report my fishing trips when I can to share the infomation and experience gained from fishing with the members of this forum.

I don't however like being attacked over a report, reports are "GIVEN" to the forum so members can take as much or as little infomation away with them.

Again if anyone wants more information, tips, or just some helpful advice please just ask but don't demand nor carry on when someone turns down the details on their fishing location. Most members prefer to be PM'ed for locations rather than making it front page news for every Tom, Dick and Harry to read!

Information is power...... :)

I must admit I hate reading someone story and having to read the crap that others are giving back, fair enough if someone has done something stupid and wrong give them a ear full, but make it short. I come here to find information for my own fishing trips, (trust me i suck on my own).

The pics on here are great and cant wait till a actually start landing them.
