Gday everyone.

Im heading to Sommerset Dam on Friday the 21st of July.

This will pretty much be an all day trip.

My targets are Bass, Tilapia and Hopefully a Yellowbelly.

However if these proove shy im sure the catties will provide me wth some fun.

Brian if you read Neil Shultz's SE QLD Dam reports on Fishnet, he pretty much says Wyvanhoe and Sommerset are a waste of time in summer due to the absolutely crazy numner of big Fork Taled Catfish. These catfish also dont settle for bait they will take a lure before a bass will!

Although he always seems to get some good bass ad yellowbelly in winter. This is usually simply because the catties are off the bite. Not ideal i know, but for those two Dams its your better chance.

Anyway the way the days have been lately im not to worried. Tilapia aremeant to be pretty tricky to get in winter, but last Sat if you saw that report we got 15 ad one carp. They came on at about 10:00 when the warmer started to warm up, so im thinking especially as there is a serious lack of water at the moment that Sommerset could do the same for me.

Anyway heres hoping.

well I learn something every day! I suppose I do fish in the box a bit too often! Are the ramps still usable?

mmm, the drought has taken its effect. its probs best to use a 4wd if possible or a car with a bit of guts in it.

I was at Somerset last Friday. The Spit ramp stops a long way short of the water as does the ramp at Kirkleah. We launch from the bank just past the Spit ramp, just follow the well beaten tracks. A friend of mine launched his 4.2m boat with his 2X ute with no worries. Just make sure they don't back too close to the water when retrieving\".

I got a new nissan xtrail so I should be OK.

I will try and get the day off work, should be OK, they owe me heaps of time off.

I'll know tomorrow, if OK can I come too, please!

What sort of gear, lures, spinners etc do I need?

Are you coming back Fri, Sat or Sun?

Brian, i am going as early as i can Friday morning and coming back friday evening.

Of course you can come.

At the moment its just Jimmybob and i.

We were going to try the place land based just so you know.

I have been reading a bit about Bass and SP's so was going to give that ago.

Might pick up like some worms or something as well as a fall back plan.

My local pet store stocks them as feeder for aquarium fish.

But Jimmybob was saying that they get quite a few Yellows on Spinners.

Should be a good day.

Im keen to fish the dams while there is atleast some water in them!
