Basically its an electric current passed through the water that stuns fish.

The fish become temporarily disorientated and float to the surface where they are scooped up.

The department of fisheries use this type of fishing methods for research purposes...

There is no harm done to the fish besides a slight headache..:pinch:

Many years back we used to spend our holidays on the murray river near rutherglen. We'd use set lines made of gum tree saplings driven into the bank at likely spots, 100 pound line , 4-6\" live yabbies or Bardie grubs for bait.

Leave them in overnight and check morning and afternoon, we caught many big cod in the 40-66 pound range, biggest 66lb. the thing was we regulary good busted of or hooks straightened out, one fish nearly capsized our 3.7 meter tinny just by sheer weight...we never got to see that one but it was huge. Good times.

excellent news that there's still a few monsters around.
