Mud Island Variety Show

Just a quick tale of todays events at Mud Island.

I headed out from Cabbage Tree Creek to smooth waters and headed out to Mud Island for the very first time. Weather was sensational, pretty much Zero wind, bugger all swell and not hot sun :-)

We anchored up and started throwing out baits (packet prawns) and the show began. I kid u not, we must have pulled over 40 fish out of the water in 4 hours of fishing, with an amazing variety of species and one particularly nasty bastard that put 2 spines into my thumb and made it swell up in agony. Friggin' hell it hurt!

Species caught in the one spot;

Bream

Snapper (even the babies fight bloody good)

Tarwhine

Swallow tail Dart

Parrotfish

Wrasse

Grass emperor (sweetlip)

Grinners

Other non identifiable fish , varoius reef fish(and the one with ouchy poisonous spines, small mouth, perhaps a type of wrasse?)

Good fun with 3 keepers (2 bream and a dart)

With the amount of snapper caught this season and the next are going to be incredible!

Any idea what type of fish smashed me? I was shaking it off the hook with pliers when it hit my thumb with the spines....OUCH!

No pics sorry.

Not that you are likely to have hot water on board, but I have been told that hot water,as hot as you can stand can alleviate the pain, but don't scald yourself.

Apparently the venom is like the white of an egg, when heat ia applied it thickens & loses its potency.

What happens with a thick fluid in the body, I don't know.

Hope you don't have the need to use the remedy.
