Bass Social OFFICIAL LIES. 26-28 October 12

Pussca and Shortness asked me to post up the official report, so they are obviously not interested in the truth.

Obviously many huge fish were caught over the weekend including this bruiser…

post-2889-144598872619_thumb.jpg

… and conditional couldn\'t have been lovelier …

post-2889-14459887264_thumb.jpg

Except of course for the crushing hot weather for about 2 hours on Friday and the evening wind storms. In general the weather was good for relaxing, but the word was that when the barometer dropped the fishing got harder. But we\'re AFO so when the fishing gets hard we … sit down and discuss it over a beer.

Yes fish were caught (on lures for gods sake) but the real drama centred more around the camp ground. As you\'ve already seen Shortie Jnr started the weekend dramas with a great busta …

post-2889-144598872646_thumb.jpg

… but when he heard those sage words from Bartholomew Simpson: \"Wounds heal, chicks dig scars\". SHortie Jnr just sat back and let the harem form.

post-2889-144598872656_thumb.jpg

There was competition for the ladies though and Pussca\'s lad was scanning the campgrounds for shielas.

post-2889-144598872664_thumb.jpg

It didn\'t take the 2 of them long to figure out where the women could be found. 10 for effort, 3 for execution.

post-2889-14459887267_thumb.jpg

BTW Max showed an inordinate amount of attention to the plumbing. Has anyone else noticed how much he looks like Keen-as-fisho. Just sayin\' Pusscat, maybe you should have a quiet word to Knickers.

Sweresy turned up with a trailer problem that seemed to take up everyones attention. I couldn\'t believe the amount of head scratching that went on. I\'m no mechanic but even I could tell he had the wheel on at the wrong angle.

post-2889-144598872675_thumb.jpg

Sweresey you\'re a chef could you make me some…

post-2889-144598872681_thumb.jpg

… maybe I\'ll just get some Maccas

The real entertainment for the weekend didn\'t really start until Rob turned up. Zim-man is always entertaining with his stories about back home in Zimbabwe - for those not in the know - Zimbabwe is a northern suburb of South Africa. No-one could have predicted the chain of events that were about to ensue. The South Efrikan antics continued all weekend and we thought it peaked when Rob used his 4WD to get his boat out of the lake only to find that a few more dollars to get drive to all 4 wheels rather than just the front 2 would have meant the car would tow the boat not the other way round.

post-2889-144598872686_thumb.jpg

Not to worry JNewy was there to tow him free.

Clear of the water Rob thought all his problems were at an end … did he not notice the hill he had to climb. How embarrassment, so pop the trailer of the 4 oops 2WD and luckily members of the Zimbabwean Hairdressing and Pig Hunting team were present and in no time at all had hitched up tinny …

post-2889-144598872692_thumb.jpg

… and were quickly stealing his boat.

post-2889-144598872699_thumb.jpg

BTW Rob this is what a 4WD drive looks like when you go shopping this week.

post-2889-144598872705_thumb.jpg

So JNewy and the ZHand Pig Hunting Salon were the heroes. That is until Newy had to get his boat out of the water. It seems that his boat weighs more than Rob\'s 2WD and boat combined. He was also stuck.

post-2889-144598872712_thumb.jpg

Some of the lads thought it might have something to do with the engine, so after a lot more head scratching and searching high and low they found it - it was under the hood - who woulda guessed.

post-2889-144598872718_thumb.jpg

tow rope, 4WD and another AFO was saved.

On with the festivities of the final day. Even though Ted had been severely hampered with a bung arm (apparently it has something to do with being bitch-slapped by some lady, but I don\'t want to tarnish his good name here) he still managed to take out the back-ward fishing comp.

post-2889-144598872724_thumb.jpg

JeffF couldn\'t get the hang of it and failed miserably.

post-2889-144598872732_thumb.jpg

There\'s alway one - Dave turned up with this … thing

post-2889-144598872739_thumb.jpg

… after a lot of discussion the decision was made to just put it in the water and not to mention it.

post-2889-144598872745_thumb.jpg

So Pussca rounded out the proceedings with a well composed and well thought out speech, outlining all the myriad of blah, blah, blah (Tacklebox falling asleep, how embarrassing).

post-2889-144598872753_thumb.jpg

So the competition winners.

1st place brown fishy - some AFO member

2nd place yellowish fishy - another AFO member

3rd place … you get the idea, no-one gave me that info before I wrote this.

I think we all know however that the real winners on a AFO comp are the fish.

Not much more to say really except - always make sure you have the right tool for the job.

post-2889-14459887276_thumb.jpg

PS no fish were harmed in the production of this report ... we had no balloons!

There was no mention of a certain kayak that went for a little ride without its owner

What goes on on camp stays on camp Shortness. We don't want to unduly embarrass anyone.

Oh and here's another pic, Lance was all ears as Sweresy explained, in great detail ... how to ice a cake.

The Bass social was another awesome AFO event and thanks to Tom and Shortie and anyone else involved with organizing this weekend.

I had BigBen on my boat all weekend and we caught plenty of fish.

Ben caught his first fish on a lure as well as his first ever Yellowbelly so well done Ben.

All up my boat caught around 100 Bass,7 Tandanus and 1 Yella for the weekend so we ended up having a great trip.

Thanks to everyone there for all the laughs and shenanigans that went on. :P:P:P

great report kreel, what a good weekend, i had a bit of launching trouble due to suspected sabotage of the ramp. front wheel drive of my beast was failing , realizing i was stuck, i look up from the dashboard and blow me down, i have paparazzi everywhere taking pics and filming. it seemed that every time my truck started, cameras would come out.

only started fishing around 4pm saturday, all the usual spots had dirty water from those filthy skiers. i went in search of cleaner stuff and soon we were catching fish. spanglies at first and then the bass came out to play. got back to camp after the sun disapeared, poured a drink and went to say hi to everyone, before i knew it it was after 11, discussed a game plan for the next day with sweresy who was cooking dinner at 11;30pm  then the winds came and sleep did not come by easy. as soon as it was safe light i was in the boat for a fish,

greedy guts in the 55mm size did most of the damage for me on both days with the odd fish on a loco perrito

and my mate brett getting in on the action

it was great being out there, as usual, i failed to adequately socialize with everyone there, time flies when you having fun. thanks to Jnewy for pulling my out the second day and to Dave ( i think i remembered his name) for saving me the first day.

Pretty sure these events should be called anti-socials...

Eug, would you mind posting up some shots from the presentations - seeing as you were the only one there.

Organisation for this event was as smooth as grating a porcupine. :woohoo:

Seriously well done to Pussca and Shortness for the muscle and especial thanks to Sam and Max who did most of the cerebral work for the event.

I'm so relieved you posted Zim man, we all made sure to keep an eye out for you on the way home just in case. Someone even suggested we head over to your place, just in case you have an incline on your driveway. Problem averted.

I'm just here to help.

Has anyone heard from JNewy?

Yep, big thanks to Tom and shortie we had an absolute blast as usual  heaps of laughs with rach, Newy and jeff. We got to know a few of the AFO crew a bit better over the weekend and had some good drinking sessions around the campfire.

Here's a couple more pics from the weekend starting with my best bass of the weekend, unfortunatly caught saturday morning before the comp officially started

post-5844-144598872887_thumb.jpg

I heard Jeff mumbling about the pegs being hard to hammer into the ground while he was pitching his tent...........wrong type of peg by the look

post-5844-144598872896_thumb.jpg

And here's two thirds of the Motley crew who didn't stop all weekend, well almost didn't stop

post-5844-144598872902_thumb.jpg

Thanks again to everyone who made us welcome and had a beer with us and commiserations to gloomy samurai whose rod went in the drink, I was laughing with you Andrew....not at you :P
