New recreational size limits for dusky flathead for Vic

can not believe they allowed a 27cm falthead to be taken. even the new size of 30cm is to small to get any meat of them

30 is still too small, I don't even think the 40 min on dusky Flathead up here is big enough. Let alone the 30 on all other species, there's just not enough meat on them.

the statement issued is interesting i have copied a piece below

The Fisheries (Dusky Flathead) Notice introduces a maximum size limit of 55 centimetres for recreational fishers to provide a no-take refuge for large fish to help rebuild breeding stocks,†Mr Walsh said.

“The Notice also increases the minimum size limit from 27 to 30 centimetres to ensure retained fish are a suitable size to eat.

“This action will provide greater protection for large breeding dusky flathead, particularly females, and will ensure that this popular fishery is sustainable into the future,†Mr Walsh said.

So they have reduced the max size limit to rebuild breeding stocks but reduce the minimum size to take due to increased popularity fishing for Dusky's

I don't think 30 is to bad as long as as long as the bag limit is ahered to by all anglers but you can bet your bottom dollar it won't and as far as 55for a maxium thats a great thing as long as it's held for a time to rebuild stocks,for the next 10years or so
