My mate Shannon flew up for the weekend, yesterday we went across to Hamilton Island for the day via Daydream Is and after seeing an abundance of bust ups on the way we decided to take the boat out today. Today was actually its maiden voyage after the rebuild (decked out build report during the week) to say it got blooded was an understatement :woohoo:

From the get go it was mayhem. First up we had fun with big schools of Queenies and small Mackerel both between 60 and 70cm. We both got onto a few and lost a few.

After this we headed up to a spot I fished on the kayak a few weeks ago for the Mac Tuna, here we didn't find much, just the odd bust up of mackerel. After a call from dad who was out in a mates tinny, wanting some photos and a chat we started to notice thick dark schools of tiny bait fish. The trick here was to cast directly at them and let the plastic sink for 5 seconds then give it a few hops, generally one lift got the fish excited and me :woohoo: We were both using white Damiki 5 inch Armour shads on a 1/6th 3/0H jighead.

First big hit resulted in a PB GT of 80cm, which was realised :woohoo:

I was stoked after landing that bugger and ol mates excellent chasing with the boat. We went back to the spot and had another cast. The drift was quick and hard to get on the money but I managed to smack another, but got rapped around the beacon. We repositioned and I was on again and this one pulled like a teenager :woohoo: A cracking 92cm Bludger :woohoo: Unfortunately it didn't release well so we knocked the fillets off.

Dads catch was also a PB for him :woohoo: 50cm GT and a 62cm Golden and he was stoked, so was I as there wasn't a bit of stinky bait in his boat. The Golden was caught on a 3 inch Flash J.
