Buzzid: Mate that was an epensive trip for your friend! They are there alright. Gerty from this site site landed a big one just near the mouth of Breakky creek on guess what........ An Eco Gear SX40. He was lucky to land it, needless to say the lure was retired hahaha.

Jeff: I had a big long chat with a local at Kooka park one time. He swears that although the mouth of kholo creek (the creek about 1km downstream from the Kooka ramp) is shaollow, he has picked up several jacks there.

I figure they might sit there and wait for the poddy mullet to come out of the creek mouth as the tide goes out?

Everyone: One of my main goals this summer is to turn my Zero Jacks on a lure score into something with at least a digit. So ill be actively targeting them. Starting on my honeymoon :):P!!

I caught my first last summer on a bit of chicken gut fishing for bream on day break. Felt like a bullet train on 6kg line and no leader. Was only 39cm but not bad for a first. Plan to hit the tweed and bruns this year for the first on a lure. Reconditioned my old coriolis just for them.

afo member morty can be observed working the snags in the lower reaches of the logan river on a balmy afternoon, peppering the snag of an old xd falcon \"one of his favourite spots\" while listening to the cricket and crushing th occasional gold tin. when he isnt there hes at shultz canal fighting aboriginal kids for old shopping trolleys, one day this kid will build an enormous snag thatll rival a cunamulla vb can midden. I'm gonna be trying to get some Jacks and Cod at Shultz this summer. Mainly lures. Would 6-9cm be a good lure range for the Cod and Jacks at Shultz? And would 15lb braid be good? And would 16lb Flurocarbon be too heavy, or good for the fish in there? There is a lot of rusty metal and rocks at Shultz. Sorry for all the questions, I've never fished specifically for Cod or Jacks and I want to nail one this season:)

Thanks (sorry for trying to over take this thread, seemed like the right place to ask)

No idea what the right gear is but if you want a fishing buddy to experiment and try and figure it out count me in. After that one I got last summer I'm keen to get another one. I wonder why Jack's have such an aura about them as a prize fish. I guess just because they are hard to catch and they taste good.

Probably just because most anglers fish in the estauries and they are probabaly the best estaury fish around. They are also related to other prime reef fish (Red Emperor (Lutjanidae)), so it is just like catching a reef fish in an estaury.

I'll let you know when we go to Shultz to fish specifically for Jacks and Cod. But most of the time we just go for Bream and Flathead

I caught mine on 6lbs main with a mono 15lbs leader. Both are well under class for such a hard fighting fish.

I just watched the line on the spool smoke down to almost nothing before I got the gain on it......

15lbs line would be over kill on the smaller ones but when ya hit a biggun well ya gunna need every bit of strength out of ya line!!!!

he he he he i can see alot of lost lures and light braid with the odd broken graphite rod thrown in this summer

i saw a bloke put his rod in his car window and wind it up most of the way to hold it while he went to the toilet a couple of minutes later we hear this smash he got a big hit that broke the 10foot rod and the car window.

this was at the back of the cascade gardens about a half a k from the jupiters casino

Well i am really keen on hitting goldy canals in the summer.

From what i hear from good sources, there are large populations of large jacks, bream, trevs etc that travel right into the lock systems and end up staying there.

As far as fishing preasure goes they dont get much. So if anyone is keen to join me over the summer and hitting a couple of these somewhat land locked lakes and channels, id welcome the company.
