I found this little place not far from home looks prime bass grounds but nothing

Just keep in mind that bass are pretty much always on the move throughout the system all year, they can be jammed in a spot one week and all but gone the next, if that creek runs to salt I'd bet anything that you will catch a bass there at some stage during the season.

Is it up or down from a weir, river etc? This will often give a good clue as to what is there...

Yeah it's up from a weir.. Down from the weir was private property so was a bit iffy...

Does the weir have a fish bridge or overflow during heavy rain? If so it should hold fish.
