Any one work out how these work? are they like a paravane, or do you just toss them over the side and let them sit on the bottom or what?

The way I see it the sinker is attached to the main body of the boom independant of the main line when a fish strikes the detachable part of the boom lets go of the main body and allows the fish to run without the weight of the sinker your main line runs through the main body of the boom similar to a running sinker
