I've Been Everywhere, Man!

I love travelling. I love fishing. And I'm incredibly blessed to be able to do both on a regular basis. The travelling comes with my job (which I also love), and recently, I've racked up some serious kilometres.

Even without the fishing, I love this country. I enjoy long drives, and taking in all the scenery. The fishing is the added bonus, and these days, wherever I go, I make sure the yak is tied on and fishing gear is packed. When I'm home in Brisbane, any of my local waterways are an easy and great choice for chasing my favourite - Australian Bass. And when travelling is on the cards, mapping out what dams/creeks/rivers are on the way is what makes things exciting.

This year I've flicked lures in more places than ever before. Some of the most beautiful locations, that don't even require a single fish being caught to enjoy the trip. Fortunately though, I have been catching the fishies everywhere I go, and it has reached a point where I aim to not have a doughnut each trip. One fish is enough! Some locations I have conceded defeat, with only Catfish or Carp being caught, but I enjoyed the hookups all the same.

And while we're on locations, here are the places I've visited in just the last three months. More than a few times for several!

Teemburra Dam

Lake Awoonga

Lake Gregory/Isis Balancing Storage

Boondooma Dam

Ted Pukallus Weir (Cooyar Creek)

Lake Borumba

Yabba Creek

Ewen Maddock Dam

Lake Kurwongbah

North Pine Dam

North Pine River

Brisbane River

Churchbank Weir (Warrill Creek)

Lake Coolmunda

Storm King Dam

Severn River (QLD)

If only I'd caught all of the species on offer at each location... ;) I will on the next trip!

Here's some photos to go with the locations, along with some of the fishes I got to meet.

Boondooma at 39 degrees, or Stanthorpe at 4 degrees... It's tough going some days ;) A PB Bony Bream on a lure was a strange highlight, as was getting snagged on someone's brand new rod and reel on the bottom of Lake Gregory. Mine now :) Paddling in the quiet, listening to the birds, spotting Platypus and nasty coloured snakes, discovering places that I hope to get back to again someday, all of it was awesome. I can't wait for the next trip :)

Thanks for reading!

Luke

Thanks everyone! You're all very kind.

Barra and Toga are indeed high on the target list. I've caught my fair share of Borumba Toga, just not recently!

I like to pretend my yak looks cool, but up close you might think otherwise ;) A mounted fishfinder and GoPro are pretty cool though!

Dino, all of those Bass said they had met you at some point... ;)

Also, does anyone know what kind of Carp it is in one of the photos? They didn't have whiskers, and two of the fish in the school were 'golden' like a Goldfish. That may or may not be the answer, haha.

Just found this when I did a forum search for the Severn River. Awesome report and pitcures mate, some great looking spots there and nice fish to boot.

Thanks heaps! :) I probably should have gone into more detail about the places I visited. There could have been a lengthy report for each of them haha. Are you headed out to the Severn River area? I think the NSW Severn River would be more worthwhile, I'd love to check it out. And then pop in to some of the dams in Northern NSW too.

Looking at doing some bush/freshwater camping at Easter so looking at our options. Sundown National Park is on the list so just need to get a bit more info and decide. Only have an Xtrail and have a 2 and a bit year old son.
