Yesterday I fished with a mate out over the Continental Shelf chasing some Bar Cod and Blue Eye Trevalla.

We ended up with some nice cod and trevalla for the day but I managed to catch my biggest Bar Cod to date.

This fish was nearly 30kg and was an absolute monster for this species.

A few fillets there, Lance. Does the eating quality change with size like it does with some other fish?

They are still beautiful eating Steve.

The meat from these fish is often substituted for Lobster in some unscrupulous restaurants.

Yeah, well, ummmmmm ....... In my defense I had our school's Athletics Carnival yesterday (starting setting up at 6:45am ....) so was almost asleep by the time I finished my celebratory beer last night!! Nice fish Lance!!

We fished a new area the past 2 days for these fish and I was a little confident that we may have seen another one this size but sadly we didn't.

Our best was about 25kg this trip, still a cracking good cod though.

I am still waiting for one to get sharked so i can grab a feed but the mongrels seem to take the whole fish and leave none for us,lol
