What Weight Wire?

Going to be doing a fair bit of Sharking in the river this season, an I'm going to get some wire and crimps and make the traces myself.

What weight wire should I get for Sharks to 1.5m long?

about 90lb should stop you getting bitten of at that size just once in a while thell still nip you off

Ok. Thanks. I was thinking 90lb, but I am very new to this style of fishing, so I needed other opinions to be sure.

I use 30lb but im only playing with the little fellas.

Yeah I use between 30 and 30 kilo depending on what's on the shelf at any given time. Trace usually an arm span, or a foot or two over an arm span if I am feeling generous!

These days I also double crimp if using the crimps that come with the wire, and cover it with shrink wrap.

Well I rode over to Tackleware House today and picked up some 80lb and 100lb wire that you use crimps with, and some 90lb Twist and Melt stuff.

And a Brag mat, jigheads, sp's and hooks :cheer:.

Should be set for the BRC now :cheer:

Yonks ago I saw a doco on Vic Hislop, think he was useing 3/16 \" ss rigging wire dont know the breaking strain but might be a touch over kill for the briso river though:lol:

i sometimes drop 3killo baits out on 1500kg crane cable on 80lb stand up tackle just for a laugh most things you just wind in sometimes you get a good run though:laugh:

Can u get nylon coated wires and crimps from bunnings?

i went to noble and sons a cable manufacturer on the south side their smallest coated cable is 2.5 mm cable plus the plastic coating comes out about 3mm it is the blue stuff some tackle shops sell it was the cheapest way to buy it but its bloody huge ive still caught plenty of small sharks on it and its very easy for the trace man as you have something to hold on to it would have to be useless in clearwater though i would think i dont use it a lot so i cant tell you much
