i am not saying custom rods r no good, i am saying that most custom builders r not qualified enough to build a rod as good as any megabass rods even given the same components! as far as i know, most rod builders r still playing with budget blanks and components but that's not custom build rod's for! i will probably let some US guys custom build a rod for me but that's not for saving bucks, but for the availability and personal requirements.

for ages, i have seen ppl holding wrong ideas when custom building rods and then go back to production rods for their gun rods. for those who ONLY OWN CUSTOM RODS, i don't think they really know what they r doing. without a depth understanding of JDM high end rods, i doubt rod builders can build anything near as good as a bottom of the line megabass or evergreen.

shortie, if ur looking for MB rods now, let me know i can import them cheap for ya.

Kev, not offence here but if you plan to only use on particular reel on one particular rod you cannot get a perfect rod for that reel without getting it custom made.

guide layout involves alot of factors including spoll diameter, types of guide in accordance to rod flex etc etc. to get the most out of your reel you need the guide layout to be personalised to that reel. unless you happen to fluke upon a factory bought rod that has the correct guide placements you cant get it perfect.

and the statement about custom guys only using budget equipment is a total misjudgement. You might of only had experience with dodgy builders but i know builders like (basskid's i think) wheezer custom rods only specialise in high end gear.

any one else bored with the same arguements going back and forth? i think we need to realise every one will have a diffrent opinion and just because it is yours doent make it right. there has been some good info posted but i think now it is just a war of dissimilar opinions and getting quite old.

guys, i think everyone should refrain from making any misguided comments. comments made without proper documentation/references = hearsay/crap.

one man's meat is another's poison. just drop this stupid argument about factory rods VS custom built. the standard of discussion here has dropped drastically since i was last active on this forum, and frankly, it's a turn off.

If you've got the $$, buy whatever you want, use it and either be happy or dont be happy. dont criticise what other people like or prefer to use. there's no justification for that. we're all fellow fishos here, so who gives a crap about what the bloke fishing beside you is using as long as he's good company? pfft.

anyway, i rest my case. no point trying to provide information and facts if the response is irrelevantly misguided. nuff said. tightlines everyone, and have a good one.
