I had my first go at using a popper easter weekend, one of the first casts caught an average queenfish, then not many casts after that i lost the only damn popper that i took with me.

so I will buy some more & have an other go

Mate not trying to be a smart ass but you should check your leader and knots after fish like that. I don't but I know you should. :S Was it whip lash or bust off? Whip lash pips me off, I have lost plenty of lures 1st cast from this dreaded desease.
