new south wales Clarence River, Tabulam Sept 08

Kath and I are taking our "kids" (4 legged! ) down to Chauvel park, a dog friendly B+B on the Clarence River at Tabulam.

Tabulam is located between Casino and Tenterfield and we are staying right on the river for a few days so we are taking the tinny too!

The guys at northcoastfishingnsw have been very helpful with some tips and info on the area. Apparently Bass are the main target, so fingers crossed we'll get our first non-impoundment bass in the coming days.

Has anyone else fished down that way?

I won't have net access down there, but will make a report when I come back.

Thanks all for your replies.

Maxi, I'm thinking mainly spinnerbaits, lipless cranks and deep divers...tonight's job is ready the boat and sort out my tackle and lure collection (it looks kind of like the guessing comp on your site:blush: )

Any colour tips?

cant give you any hot tips mate on colors but i would always start with darkish ones.. deep early, then work up the water coloum as the water warms a little during the day with lighter colors...

took me 1.5 hrs to sort that mess out on NCF comp :laugh: :laugh:

and 5 mins to make it .... :woohoo:

I'll be down that way myself within a few weeks.

The bass in the rivers tend not to be as fussy, colour-wise as the educated fish in brisbane Valley lakes.

Rough rule of thumb, use any colour as long as it is purple.

Take some chartreuse/white spinners too.

Greens work well in the stretch of the Clarence we fish, when the water is not too clear.

Maxi, I gave up trying to sort out the lures and just packed them all...will untangle the trebles when I get down there:P

Thanks Neil, Purple features heavily in my tackle box as does yellow and green so I might just have a chance.

Went to hook up the trailer and check the lights...bad.

Had to joggle the connection to get any action and then it was sporadic.

I re-attached the wires internally 3 times tonight to find that wires are not the problem.

Looks like I need a new 7 pin round connector, the old (ancient) one that came with the trailer is soooo loose on the pins that it wont make a clean contact so off to BCF/Bias before we leave.

We plan on leaving after peak hour tomm so hopefully I'll have plenty of time in the AM to change the connector.

Heading off myself this morning for a few days camping in the caravan on my sons property on the southern side of Canungra. Has a nice babbling brook to listen to while relaxing. Only problem is its to shallow, the only thing I have seen in it is eels, might have to have a bit of eel fun.

yes I have driven over that river many times at the bridge (bridge at Drake or Tabulum I forget) and I always wondered what it held.

sounds like a sweet retreat from the hussle and bustle of the big smoke.
