Building a club house

polyphonic

Recommended Posts

O.K. so now we have 1124 members, Well done to admin staff;), so if each member came up with $500 that would give us $562,000 to build a club house with our own personal ramp on the Brizzy River. What do ya reckon? Then something like $100 a year membership giving us another $112000 to play with. Who's in? Actually probably a bit more for a spot somewhere on the river but it’s differently do able over time.

Hahaha Feral nail on head mate.

My previous company used to specialise in Riverfront Land funnily enough and  its steep.

However i cant say the idea of a AFO HQ sounds appealing.

We do have these sexy trophies after all that need mounting :)

The thing is, we have never really considered ourselves a \"club\" in the true sense of word preffering to avoid the politics that come with it.

I guess i like to think of us as more a group that in some small way benefits the community??

Anyway keep throwing out ideas because the best things usually start with small ideas.

Regards

Angus

Yeah, it's a bit of a worry - bloody hell, we'd all end up looking like something out of a Castlemaine Perkins TV ad...although Carlton had a good bash with their \"blokes shed\" series of ads a few years ago. Perhaps we could go something on these lines - front the clubhouse as something else entirely (preferably something that attracts, say, Council grants and State Govt funding, maybe a bogus charity like the \"Knackered Fisho's Benevolent Society), and when we're all assembled the interior changes at the flick of a switch...bookcase rotates to reveal bar, pool table slides aside revealing pre-stocked livie tank, etc.

If we were to establish a bonefide club we should be able to get a site at a peppercorn rental from the council. We may not be able to have our own ramp ( we would have to pay for it) but there are several parks in the BCC and Ipswich CC areas that already have ramps there and if we could snag a site for a clubhouse and secure parking area that would be great.

Another alternative is that we could all join an existing club and take it over by sheer weight of numbers:evil:

Southport Yacht Club comes to mind but I dont think we could afford the fees.

Maybe there is a small club out there with similar interests that we could share facilities.

It all sounds very exciting but it will take a lot of work to bring to fruition.

I could be wrong, but we may already have a plant at Southport Yacht Club...anyone spoken to Brian lately??

He has been a bit quiet lately . Last I heard he was heading out to moreton for the weekend or maybe he is sulking because of that blue jersey he wears.

How do you define an active member/ Do they have to post or just log on mire than once?

1321 members, how many of those are active....

Well by reading the stats down the side i can tell you that 783 members have made posts at some stage.

In addition to this there are loads of members that sign in regularly that dont post. I take notice of things and see several names that appear online a lot but dont say anything.

No critizing either. Any forum situation will have exactly the same occurance.

I think though it comes down to, the more you contributer etc, the more people will in turn help you out etc.

Just a thought :( dont mean to be a wet rag.

What do you think would happen when a comp like the brizzy classic comes along can you imagine the turmoil on the boat ramp and congestion in the club house at the weigh in etc

Dont get me wrong I like the idea of having a home :)

I think Angus's plan this W/E is a better place to start then maybe a monthly meet @ a pub (close to public transport for those who like an ale) get T Shirts etc made and start aproaching tackle stores to get discounts for AFO members ???

just thinking out loud

and a GREAT job so far from Admin staff

We have shirts!

They are for sale in the shop :P

Im also looking at getting the AFO Logo made as a patch (sooner rather than later). This way all the blokes with fishing shirts already could just stitch them on. Well you could stitch them onto anything as well i guess.

Would many people be interested in these sort of patches?

I'd be up for a patch or 2, chuck one on a few of my regular fishing shirts.

We should start getting a fair few members rolling in now with Angus doing regular columns in Bush 'n Beach. Large amount of people read that magazine and they are exactly the kinda people who would like this site. The stickers for boats/yaks and patches will also help advertise the forum.

If AFO as a group could aproach some of the bigger stores BCF comes to mind and have a monthly comp with them donating prizes in exchange for a bit of free advertisement

Tackle world is another

pick different locations

mystery weight prizes etc

just a thought

Theres always one hehehehe

Rayke i would just assume that an active member wouldnt have to post, maybe logged on in the last 2-3 months or so. Forums tend to have lots of active members but only a core ...lets call them elite panel that post regulary.

Im definatly pro some meeting place whatever or wherever it would be, things like this wello trip on sunday are awesome...
