Where To Go

Hi, I'm new to this forum and am looking for some advice. My wife and I will likely be leaving Alaska to visit Australia for 2 weeks in April. I want to spend 4-5 days fishing somewhere for bara and other estuary fish and maybe venture out for reef fishing. I want to rent a boat to fish on my own but may consider hiring a guide for a day to figure things out. If you could go anywhere in Australia to fish in April where would you go? I appreciate any help.

Welcome to the site, I would look at West Australia , Exmouth Bay area, one of the guys from this site went to WA. earlier this year on a charter it looked fantastic also plenty of documentries of the area due to its area being frequented by Whale Sharks. Its a hige Bay area protected from weather but holds some massive pelagics. Also in that area is Ningaloo a marine Park (fishing Allowed) which is aslo famous.

Daveylad, I just saw the end of your post. We don't have any definate plans but were considering spending a week around Cairns and a week between Sydney and Adalaide but nothing is set. I want to make sure I can catch some fish somewhere.

plenty of good fishing around Cairns area. You have a good choice of Reef, estuary and impoundments up there. It depends on what you are after. You can chase the Barra in the Estuary and maybe spend a couple of days on Lake Tinaroo for the big impoundment barra. http://www.tinaroobarra.com/barramundi.html I would probably try and hook up with one of the Cairns fishing clubs or give the Jack Erskine Tackle shop a a call. http://www.jackerskine.com/ good luck it is a great part of the world to visit.

Jeez, Brian, must have been a big cyclone in WA if Broome has shifted to the NT??? http://www.australianfishing.com.au/components/com_kunena/template/default/images/emoticons/grin.png:lol: Good suggestion though, I have always wanted to go to that part of WA for a fishing trip.

Lots of great options around Cairns, which sounds like a more realistic target. I would go for a charter option out of Cairns or maybe head for Bowen?
