Where to throw a cast net?

I have a cast net and know how to throw it but am unsure of how to find a likely spot to throw it.

I am after prawns or mullet but dont know what to look for in the river, is it just blind lick? Can i just throw it anywhere and hope to be lucky or should i be looking for specific signs?

Is it worth using Berley as well?

Well most of the time it blind luck when using cast nets.

Prefered areas of use would be somewhere with no snags like sand bottoms or smooth mud.

Berley can be used to bring say schools of mullet into close range but most of the time you can see the school working the surface and as for prawns sometimes they can be seen swimming along the top of the water but most of the time they are hiding.

just watch out for shopping trolleys

your best bet is go for a walk at low tide and look for snags befor you go castnetting

well, i notice when using berley - chicken frames etc, there're more prawns around, but the bad point is ALOT of glass fish around to get stuck in the net and be a BIG pain to get out..

generally just make sure there're no snags in the area before you cast.. ripping your net is no fun...
