Finally identified those brisbane river jew fish

There's been some debate over these small jew fish looking things we've been catching in the brisbane river. Some people reckon they're a putty nose perch but I think I have discovered their true identity. If you read the bottom paragraph of this scan you'll see that there's little doubt that this is what we've been catching.

It's a really old edition my dad has. Probably be 20 years old. He actually found the description after I told him about catching one and sent him a pick. I got him to scan the page for me. Looks like it's page 400.

If only they specified what length it grew to.

This would confirm it to be different from the Jew we all know already. Either way i dont worry to much about these things. Loads of species are called different things depending on where you from.

If you went around the world and ordered snapper in every continent, youd be eating a large variety of fish

I cant find this fish under any of its given names here in the Australian Museum Fish Id site. http://www.amonline.net.au/fishes/fishfacts/specfam.htm

Considering how prolific they are i doubt it. Not sure I'd eat one if they grow up in the river. I'd only eat visitors.

Well the name is either River Perch or Little Jewfish, and is says that they were once populary targeted in the Logan river, so maybe
