mooloolaba... ocean crabs

at this stage,ash and i are heading of mooloolaba to hit some reefs sunday morning for a fish. now, if i drop some pots, say in eg 20m - 40m of water over some rubbly/sandy bottom, have i got any chance of getting any sort of crabs.

The only ones I know of are spanner crabs and people use a flat dilley type thing that the crabs just tangle them selves on

yeh cheers, knew their were spanners out their, just wondering if their are coarl crabs, 3 spot crabs ect

I'm not so sure about that. Can buy them from most crab gear dealers and as far as I know the only law on spanner crab trays is the drop can't be more than 25mm. I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure they're a legal trap.

On the crabbing side however I wouldn't have a clue even where to start.

you get spanners about 4k north of old woman island in 40mtrs of water..the prob with crabbin shallow off maloolaba is the turtles....you prob geta few 3 spot crabs in pots....i have amate who drops his post on the way to boatrock in the sand just out through the bar a catches 3 spot as well as sandies in them.think around the 20mtr mark
