Fishing with Dad (:

Took the old man out for a sesh yesterday, second time he's been on the tinny. If you remember way back when, maiden voyage was with him - first time using lure, first hardbody, first 10 mins and he gets a jack!

No difference today, gave him the rundown on how to work some plastics and before you know it he was into the action. Glassed out day made the fishing a bit tough but we spent hours catching small tailor to give him some practice. By the time they finally went deep we made a few moves to different places getting a fish or two here and there but no good quality - was a number's day.

Only got a few pics of the tailor as we caught heaps of undersize but didn't matter cos we both had a blast - felt so good getting dad onto some fish, especially on lures and especially getting him to catch and release (old school catch, fillet and release kinda guy - and no i don't have any personal vendetta against anyone. i don't mind keeping some for a feed every now and then)

Anyway we've been fishing for around 6 hours now and i decide to make one last move before calling it a day when i decide to check the fuel..........................................

There's 1 maybe 2 litres left :o ... Keep in mind last time it was glassed out I travelled 2-3times as far as i did yesterday and only used 14 litres - yet today somehow i managed to drill through 20 litres of fuel.

Also - thanks to the banana there was no jerry can in the boat as i took it out to bring with runty last week! All good so leccy'd over to a few boats who all didn't have any fuel until somehow said he'd be fishing for a short while longer and then tow us back. Big thanks to the bloke in a yellow polly with a kota on the front! And no thanks to the first three boats who all knew i'd run out of fuel and decided to head home without even asking if i needed help.

Onto the pics:

it makes a big difference in fuel usage weight. Did you have your dad the other time.

Last time I was out - we where about to come back through the south passage bar and a large fibreglass boat waved us down. Their ETEC was not running. We towed them back through the Bar and to Amity. I hope they where alright. They where going to call VMR for a tow from there if needed. One thing to notes is they did not have tools so they could not work on the boat to fix it. We gave them my Phillips head screwdriver.

Would have been about lighter as dad only weighs 60kg. My mate is same as me around 70, then plus 10kg for the 10L jerry can and more rods+reels and tackle bag.

I'm just glad we made it back and thanks to the good samaritan who towed us. Never gonna leave the jerry can at home again ^_^

was the fuel from the same place or company? - I find that different fuels in the Rodeo make an enormous difference.

I thought that might have been you. We were out on Kevin's boat and saw you loading up on the trailer when coming back in. Very nice and immculate looking rig you got there Khoi.

It was a beautiful day with glassed out conditions but the fish were not on. They are there but lacking in quality. The best we managed for the day was a 43cm snapper and that's from inside the river. Saw big tunas busting up at the beacon but they were moving too fast for us.

Seems like your dad had himself a great day out with his son :) Good on you.

Thanks mate, she would have looked pretty dirty by the end of the day though.

Were you guys in a white boat? Towed by a surf/hilux with daiwa sticker?

Nice one mate, nothin' like a bit of quality time fishing with family. With regards to fuel economy from what was written both trips sounds very similar but what about speed, were you fangin it full tilt compared to your previous trip?

Are you also basing your trip on distance registered on the sounder? some times i forget to clear the trip meter and then and think I have done more km's than I actually have..? just a couple thoughts...

I'll keep an eye on the fuel next trip and see how it goes. Have never used more than 15L a day even running between the southern bay islands for a 7hr sesh.

No noticeable fuel leaks or anything Mark, no fuel smell under the rear hatches either.

And yeah Manni, both trips were running around wot between spots. Strange day fuel wise, it's always been very predictable fuel wise but I always fill with vortex 98 but can't remember where we filled up yesterday morn.
