2 Stroke Fuel Mixture

Hello all, of late my 20hp merc 2 stroke has been a tiny bit more gluggy then  usual. Wondering if it's the fuel mixture and if so how to check it?!?! Thanks

Before playing with your mixture  -

1. You're not using any ethanol blend fuel are you ? If so, then don't - replace it all and leave the sugary stuff for Katter to eat;

2. Check your plugs and give them a clean if needed. I use a wire brush and some petrol. Try not to change the gap.

Hopefully some others may have a tip or two to add, but that's a start.

I have just bought a boat with an old 35 merc 2 stroke. I think its an 80's model but will research and find out for sure. What is a good oil blend to start with.

I had an 80's 35HP Merc.

It was 50:1

I was told 50:1 fuel:oil.  When I purchased boat so maybe you should give that a try....

I can`t remember where I got this recipe from but it`s A1

 

Calculating the amount of oil required for a ratio of 50:1

Here is a small equation even the most mathematically challenged can do in their head.

When you have finished filling your tank, look at the amount of litres you have added.

To calculate the amount of oil required, double the litres, add a naught and call it millilitres.

example: You added 13 litres of fuel to your boat tank. The equation is 13 x 2 = 26. Next you add a naught = 260 and you call that millilitres.

So the amount of oil required for a 50:1 mix in 13 litres of fuel is 260 millilitres.

Gad that is a cracker! Thanks. I'd better write that one on my tank  haha mathematically and recollective..ly challenged...
