electrical headache 25 johnno

bloody thing...:laugh: :laugh:

it starts and runs and does all the right things then out of the blue it stops...as if you just pulled both plug leads off..and then it will start and run again,done the carby, all fuel lines, cleaned fuel tank,new fuel line,including bulb,my mechanic (who i would trust with my life :laugh: :laugh: ) has replaced all electricals associated with the magneto under the flywheel,it was cracked and buggered,thought it was fixed after that and the bloody problem is still there.....i havent had a chance to get it back to him..

so just wondering if any of you fellas had any experience with a motor with similar headaches.

1989 electric start..

its been a great motor, ive had it for over 12 years now and this is the first major prob.

Could u post a pic? We got a 86model on the tinnie and it used to do this, Sorted it self out eventually tho with a lot of clean fuel and i think the mechanic reccomended 65:1 fuel or something like that (our motor was designed to run at 100:1 but we were told by the mechanic to run at 50:1)

try the plugs and the spark plug leads...

yeah forgot to add all plugs and leads been fully sussed out, new plugs etc etc...

it would have to be something like a bad kill switch ?lanyard switch/ignition switch or its a bad earth that is makeing and breaking but its definately on the power feed side of the coils as you are loosing spark to both plugs as aposed to \"a missfire plugs and leads\" good luck in your hunt:)

Sounds like a fuel problem. Motor looks in great condition. Will be a serious disappointment if you can’t locate the problem.

hey faulked .. the lanyard connection is something that hasnt been checked yet..

when it stops, it stops just like the lanyard should make it do when its activated... i will check it out soon..

I had a moter bike that used to do that and it turned out to be old fuel that wasn't all that old ie:2 months

I'm with you Faulked, some type of faulty 'kill switch engage'. Little joke there for the metal heads.

Seriously I have no idea but that'd be my guess.

If the Kill switch works out to be okay, then maybe check the float level in the carbs, or maybe a little crap in the seat and its flooding. Had a situation in a vehicle where the car started then when you took off it'd die, turned out to be the float, so worth a check if you are still stuck.
