New rod and reel question

Hey all, abit if a newbie question here. I currently got a shimano zodias 1-3kg rod with a vanford 2500hg. Love it, great light action rod. But just purchased a shimano tcurve 3-6kg (maybe a little light??) with a shimano Saragosa 8000hg. what weight main and leader line you’s recommend? Main will be braid. 
I just wanted a size upgrade for the bigger fish especially mulloway. Is that an okay setup

If anything, the Saragosa is probably a little big for the rod. Something like a 5000 size would match better and still have enough line capacity and drag.

Braid 30lb and 40lb leader will be good for Jew.

Yeah I figured either rod too small or reel too big. No problem, I can easily exchange for the 5000, I know the 6000 is in stock near me. Thanks for the help mate appreciate it.

Definitely a heavy reel, if you can swap it for the 5000 then that would be perfect, I'd still think the 6000 might be a tad big for a 6kg rod. 

I'd spool it with 30lb braid and the leader will depend on the fish your targeting.

To be honest, mulloway are fairly easily subdued.

I run a 4000 stradic or a 4500 baitrunner for jew without problems. 4-8kg rod will easily handle them.

Have caught metre plus jew several times on 3-6kg rods with 2500 reels running 16lb braid without needing more stick or cranking power.

Nailed a few threadies around the metre mark on stradic 1000 on a 2-5kg rod and 12lb braid without problems, just a little more patience.

Fighting fish hard often results in lost fish as well....jacks are a classic example....caught them in the high 50's and low 60's many times on 6 or 8 lb braid on 2-4kg rods.....the harder you fight them the dirtier they are and the more you lose.

Also done a little more research into it, and the gosa 5000 is a 6000 but with less line capacity. Is this true? ive seen a few forums and ppl saying this.

There's not a lot of difference, but there are some -

 

Looks like they're the same size, so probably worth getting the 6000 if they're the same price.

If they are the same size then I would get the 6000 just for extra line capacity. 

I've got a shimano stella 4000 that holds 165 yards of 60lb unlta thin braid, you could get over 200 yards of 30lb braid on a reel like that and there's not much you couldn't catch from the shore with something like that on a 6kg rod. That will catch even a lot of sharks that are under 2.5m in my experience. 

You can and should go heavier if your fishing with big baits, but if your flicking lures and plastics as well then it would be a very heavy outfit to use if you went bigger. 

I like to fish as light as possible, is easier to fish with and doesn't leave you at a disadvantage. The only time I see a need to fish heavy is if you have to pull them out of reefs and structure.
