Just watched the Raiders 4/Tigers 36 trial. Very happy. One disappointment though - Ben Cummins hasn't retired.

Bit of Benji magic dust has helped the tigers attack. His time under bennett, time away from the game after retiring, doing league analyst work and the final mentoring under sheens is going to make him a great coach

Nah, I’m still in, @Drop Bear. And with 4 Qld teams to back, I think I am in with an excellent chance for the spoon. Can’t wait until kick-off on Thursday..

Not so sure about that for 3 of the teams. Although you'd be foolish to back the Titans in Rd 1.

Man, I'm exhausted and the first kick-off hasn't happened ...... hurried home and signed myself up to work comp (different website), then myself and the two boys to our family one (same website as this one), did tips with no research ...... then when I thought I was done, remembered this one ....... time for a rum ........ .

I thought I had joined the comp but when I checked after the game last night I could only see the default comp you get assigned based on the club you follow. Joined the AFO comp, but don’t think I get the one point for last night’s result. Great game to open the season.

All the media chat has been about how the Panthers attack was not up to their usual standard. I would like to give a shout out to the Broncos for an amazing defensive effort. A far cry from the revolving door defence of a couple of years ago.

Yes Steve, they looked great to start the season. Hopefully, for you, they figure out what that fade was all about late last year. Good signs.

When the Panthers needed to throw some attack late in the game, they just seemed to do one out forward runs most of the time. No grand, swooping, back-line maneuvers, that we've seen for the last few years. When it did get to the backs, it stopped at Cleary or Luai and they would run back inside or skip ineffectually across the field finding no one running onto the ball.

Yes, I tipped the Panthers.

Manly played well, especially Cherry-Evans. But the Dogs were awful, particularly when you look at the team on paper. Could be a long season for @Jono4500

THURSDAY MARCH 2

Eels 12  vs  16 Storm
Yeah well,  Bellamy and the Storm’s round 1 winning streak has now moved to 20… 20 years ago, who would have thunk! LOL
for a season’s opening round 1 clash, that was a high level of grit, determination, and team commitment, put in by both sides for the whole 84 minutes… the want for the 2 points on offer, was clearly on display.
Both teams had key/major forward roster turn over, during the off season, and these changes seemed to have flowed in smoothly, and actually improved on each sides last year’s finals roster.
 

FRIDAY MARCH 3

Warriors 20  vs  12 Knights
bugger… bugger…bugger…
where the Warriors were concerned, I had a rigid new tipping system in place for this season, don’t be like a moth drawn to an old incandescent light bulb,  tip the Warriors in round 1, take the loss first up and don’t tip them for the rest of the season

In saying that, so far, their win says more about the Knights, than it does about the Warriors 2023….

Panthers 12  vs  13 Broncos
another round 1 game with high levels of grit, determination, and team commitment put in by both sides, for the whole 80 minutes…
So, I’m assuming that Oak Milk’s sponsorship with the Panthers no longer includes the game day drinks for the game officials room, nor for the bunker… just saying.
 

SATURDAY MARCH 4

Sea Eagles 31  vs  6 Bulldogs
obviously, Tommy with the dicky Turbo was back on the track, and the kennel are still quietly  licking themselves….

Cowboys 19  vs  18 Raiders
hmmm… half time Cowboys 18-6, 74^th minute 18-18 and Townsend pots a field goal 19-18.

Sharks 18  vs 27 Rabbitohs
Bunnies put a lot of oomph into this game, the Sharks never looked too comfortable at any stage

SUNDAY MARCH 5

Dolphins 28  vs  18 Roosters
once again Bennett has coached a new NRL  franchise team, to it’s first up, round 1 win over an established NRL heavy weight…
another round 1 game with high levels of grit, determination, and team commitment put in by both sides, for the whole 80 minutes…
 

Wests Tigers 10  vs  22 Titans
well, fancy that. 4 Qld nrl clubs win in round 1, that’s never happened before…
