Outboard questions.

Just a couple of questions for the mechanical buffs./ engineers.

1 outboard or 2

Are 2 outboards of same size. OR is a single outboard of 2ce the size better. There will be a difference but what and how is it measured. ie: power/top speed fuel economy.

one advantage i can see is if trolling you can drop back to 1 motor to conserve fuel.

I know people with say two 40hp say that it is 80Hp but is it really.

Fuel consumption will have to come into play here. What is better.

Counter rotating or same direction props on dual outboards.

What difference does it make and why would you choose 1 over the other.

Richard.

having twin out boards of equal hp to a single would create more drag and carry more weight. fuel consumption would be debatable, two motors running, more fuel, or less because they aren't working as hard?

other thing to consider, service and repairs, spares(props. etc) and if running twins twice the chance of a problem

On *identical* boats designed for single or twin outboard operation, the

100 hp unit will produce more speed, faster acceleration and burn less

fuel than the twin setup. Under certain circumstances, the twin engine

set up might be easier to manuever around docks however that even depends on

the boat design.
