best bet land based would be the urangan pier. heaps of shallow sand flats and a good drop off at the end.

squid definately at night around the weedbeds on the foreshores and off the end of the pier. it is also a good time of year to check the sand flats on a high tide for flatties, whiting and if you are really lucky a golden trevally :woohoo: however they are a bit shy of the pier these days. mackeral and queenfish :woohoo: off the end of pier on livies are definately a possibility - just buy a bait jig for about $2 at k-mart and they will do the trick on the livies for you and hit it early morning. bream hang around under the pier, particularly at night, but be warned, there are also cod, grunter and the occasional queenie (day only for queenies) under there too... best advice is to hang on! :P

some of the most exciting fishing i have ever done was in hervey bay sight fishing and poppering huge golden trevally up near picnic island in about 2 feet of water. :woohoo: unfortunately they have made this area a green zone since then...

got back 2day

and i must say

my fishing has gone downnn the drain haha :(

b4 i took of 2 hervey bay i was down at hope island and over 4 sessions i only caught a grand total of..........4 fish

none over like 18cm HAHah...

so went up 2 hervey bay with fresh hopes

furst trip fished from 4 to sunset

caught a ton of grinners

so went to the tackle store up near torquays

guys were REALLY helpful

went out the next arvo

got tons and tons of good hits but no cigar

so 1 last trip

got more advise from the tackle guys up along torquays

who were 300 times more useful than the guys at anglers den near the base of the pier

and they were also far cheeper.

armed with a pack of hardiheads i headed off with a mate and fished the first gutter

got a 40cm mack

33cm bar-tail flathead

and 28cm bar-tail flattie

went quiet so headed up 2 the end with my 12 pound side cast, 10 pound egg beater that i got 4 5 bucks at a garage sale

and my 8 ound sp rod

got some live herring and sent em out

after agess

got BLITZEDD

watever it was bit straight through the line

kept jigging

and got a .....blue sardine:huh:

about the size of a big pillie

and was told by sum1 made good bait

chucked it on with a wire trace

and got smashed within 5 mins

on the sidecast so definetly a bit of a interesting fight

got it round to the pylons

and up comes a nice big spotty mackeral

and got busted off on pyllons b4 culd get a gaff anchor thing down grrr

haha

but still alrite trup

next time will beef up teh gear a bit

was gonna take my baitcaster with like 20 pound braid and 40 pound leader

but rod wouldnt fit in the car and would have 2 stick out so mum decided it was too hard

Grrrrrr

while i was on the pier so quite a few good catches

a massive gt, a good mack, looked like a spaniard

and 2 big macks

the bay looked very alive

although a few too many toadies for my liking

you should see what they do with the big green sea toads of the pier

they put them live on a 10/0 with 2meters of 3mm steel cable attached to a length of 6mm rope and bounce and splash them on the surface till they get smacked by huge gts and turrum from under the pier

three or four people hanging onto the rope with leather gloves

it's wild to watch

usually the hook pulls or straightens

but i have seen 2 landed

both over 40kg

LOL!!!! thats absoloutley halerious

it's hillarious when you find a pod of sails laying around wasted on the surface, you can drive the boat real close to to them before they move, them they only go far enough to get out of your way, seen it a few times out off cape bowling green
