hey everyone

i have seen all these these photos of great thready's being caught off the Bretts Wharf

jetty.

i have been there 2 times and had live prawns and herring out on 20 pound braid with a 20 pound trace.

i was just wondering if anyone has any advice for me so i can land one off these great fish.

20lbs trace..

By this do you mean a wire trace or a mono leader?

If its wire trace I would recommend switching to a mono leader.

If you're using mono and no wire trace, then keep at it, you'll get one

maybe a down size in tackle, say 10lb braid and 15lb fluro leader, but for me thats still overkill. i prefer to go as light as poss and i have found that 4lb-8lb braid and 8lb-12lb fluro leader is more then enough for a good fun and clean fight

Id say they are still fair game,

There have been heaps caught still despite it cooling down.

Mouth of boggy creek seems to be the go mostly.

live baiting with light gear at mouth of boggy creek's definitely a secured way to hook some

i know the lighter you go the more fun you have but how many of these fish are we losing because the fight has gone too long? maybe a bit heavier tackle and it will shorten the fight and some more of theses awesome fish will swim to fight again

if i get any threaddies i will only ever keep max 2 but all the others i release i make sure they swim off but still ive lost quite a few due to light line and them busting me off which is a good sign

fishing light does not equal to fighting the fish light. i was truly amazed at the drag namyau had on his little reel and light line.

im not talking about the smaller ones im talking about the 10kg

+ ones try using 4 lb on them i have seen people fight big ones for 10 -15 mins using 20lb gear and after that much of a fight the fish hasnt got much left to swim away

couldn't agree more... if you are planning on releasing them fish heavier and release them quickly. i couldn't get one to swim which was taken on 6lb line and fought for 15 minutes and was forced to keep it.

Have a look at the map in this post. Boggy Ck is the creek that opens up towards the top of it. It is the first tributary to the Brisbane river on the northern side of the river:)
