Caught another one of those "Queensland release it fish because we do do not know what it is." Got three, largest 42 cm. John Dory? Any size restrictions?

At a rough guess I'd say a striped scat/ striped butterfish.

We always called them butter bream. Yep, spikey little buggers.

Thanks so much elops. Finally a scientific name. Common names are very confusing. Have a difficult time imaging how folks do not violate some of the Queensland regs with the incredible diversity of fish and broad brush of common names.

While I'm a physicist, one semester I was appointed to teach a course called The Natural History of Alaska. Stayed one lecture ahead of students. They always asked why Latin names are important. This is a fine example.
