i read in the paper that they get school jew at the gateway bridge is this fair dinkum or are the bait shops trying to sell bait

any one out there caught jew at the gateway ???

Uncle who died last year (or the year before) used to regulary catch Jew at Dutton Park, which is a lot further up the river.

years ago i saw a bloke with 8 school jew at newstead park all about 5 kilo

Snapper are still a regular catch under the gateway so i have no doubt the jewies would be there as well.

if your planing on fishing there, use your sounder and look for the drop off's next to the pylons. Jews will be swimming along teh drop off looknig for bait fish swimming over them, on the ledges.

Mate i have heard lots a good reports on jewies getting caught there. Apparently the good thing is you often accidently catch really decent squire by mistake whislt targeting them on sp's.

Both the left and right pylons have decent structure.

If you dont have depth sounder, just got as close as u can to right side pylon (when heading to lower river), anchor up if you can.

worthog- wonder if that was me and my dad that ya saw at newstead? or was it a german guy?we used to fish there heaps...i reckon ya could still get them there in the winter...but then again the boat traffic is dirrerent now:unsure: there used to be this german gut there all the time too...he would yell out \"barramundi!\" whenever he got a catfish...lol:lol:

long time ago now just remember this bloke fishing in the middle of the point of newstead park and he had a hession bag with 8 jew in it

i went back the next week and didnt get a scale but lost heaps of lead snags every throw

I know this is an old post, but my old man and I use to fish from the gateway to the old power house and catch Jew.. that would have been 25 years ago tho, But big kick ass fish back then.
