Absolute Noob Mono Question

Hey everyone.

This question is super rookie but i seeking advice.

Of course when your using braid a leader is used.

When your using a reel spooled with mono do you use leader as well. The reason i ask if i have a new reel spooled with platapus pink.

I come from the old school of practice with alvey reels where i would just bite a trace off the main spool when required. So with all these colored mono's im just not sure.

I usually do use a clear or darker colour for mono Fishing. Especially in clear water. I think that it would be much harder to see.

I usually use a clear leader, though I have used the platypus pink line as a leader before and did not notice any bad effects. Was still brining in plenty of fish in Moreton Bay.

Pink Platypus is mainly used when lure fishing so U can see the direction of ya line when retrieved and yes I would definitely use a long clear leader and even a longer one if the waters very clear ..

gus...using clear leader wont hurt ya chances mate....i however use platypus pink myself and dont bother with the leader...pink is nearly invisible under water anyway....didnt stop me getting my first snapper;)

theres fluro pink and then pink, the pink makes a good leader, i mostly use it in the 24kg class for snapper and jack trolling, and i also use 8kg pink for my bass leaders with good results.

That clears a few things up.

I am still a big braid fan, but i have decided to do a bit of bait fishing this winter for snapper, taylor etc. Its been ages since i did a large ammount of bait fishing but i fond mono much easier for this type of fishing.
