Cirlce hooks

BIG DAVE 1

Recommended Posts

I prefer big mouth/wide gap using mustad for freshwater as they are a fine hook and do not damage shrimp and gamatsu for squire etc in the bay. I find that they are very rarely swallowed and mostly hook the fish in the side of the mouth and are easy to release.

Feral, theres quite a few differences between them... circle hooks are much more chunky and strong where as big mouth hooks bend very easily... also big mouth hooks are more of a constant turn through-out the hook (besides the shank) and circle hooks have quite a sudden almost 90 degree right angle bend at the hook tip back towards the shank... but yeh if circle hooks are what you wanna call them, it's fine with me, just remember to say big mouth hooks if you end up talking about them again on the site :P

When I used to fish for good sized estaury cod of my balcony at Nudgee Beach we, we used to use big mouths and most of the time used to hook them right down there gob where their throat thing splits into two. I dunno if anyone else has looked inside an estaury cods mouth but yeah.
