Surprise in the crab pot Brissie River

Got this bloke in a crab pot in the Brissie River last night... Guess they are breeding here! :woohoo: of course he was released immediately after photo was taken.

Only two crabs though...

Juvenile Queensland Gro'u'per, fantastic to see them around.

Yeah I say Juvenile, could also be called fry since it could grow more than 400x that size

yeap, baby qld groper / grouper. grow to epic size, this one is very much just a pup.

Most fantastic patterns and colour on it - the pic (taken on the phone) doesn't really do it justice.

couldn't tell ya for sure mate - being a protected species I haven't tried them before... not sure he would have made the 38cm legal size for "cod - all species" either! :whistle:

The crabs were good though...

Yep they are definitely in there , i watched a river monsters with Jeremy wade episode and while he was fishing for bullies he caught a pretty big groper i think around luggage piont, pretty awesome

Terry H (moderator from this forum) was his instructor in that instance. Was a few years ago now. Same thing happened on a more recent episode in US, he was fishing for bullies and caught a 7ft long groper.

Was more excited to find a juvenile one indicating they are most likely breeding in the river. And the juvenile ones are much nicer to look at than the older ones too.

what a pretty fish! i watched a vid on youtube not long ago a couple of lads fishing for jacks i think hooked a submerged pot and that had a decent size queensland groper in it, was pretty cut up from being in there so long, they did the right thing and released her after a quick photo.
