sold Plastic wanted for esky.

Hey guys i have a 100 ltr long mackerel esky i want to cut the lid in half and looking for 2 peices of plastic to glue in position to close off the foam.

sizes reqd are 60 mm x 360mm long and whatever thickness, best quote is 250 bucks.

Anyone work with plastic on here.

Im Gold coast but can travel.

Hey bri,

I assume when you say plastic you are referring to polyethylene?

If so you could give someone like Australian poly specialists, or fusion plastics a call. They mostly workwith pipe but may have some off cuts lying around that could be what you need. and I'm sure for a sneaky carton one of the blokes in the workshop could heat weld it all together for you so you get a proper seal.

I got some plastic welding done by a guy in Nerang years ago - he, or someone similar might be able to help you? He repaired a transducer for me. Worth a call?

Cheers guys i was thinking cutting board material 20 mm thick glued and screwed.One in each section of the lid.

hey Bri,

Like the other boys have said plastic welding is the best option with polyethylene as it isn't really possible to glue. There are afew specialized solvent cements that might do it though.

If you are just after a seal about as good as you can does put a bead of silicone wait for it to cure and then compress it down with multiple screws.

Have you thought about just making a new lid?

Keep the old one in the shed intact and make a new one out of a couple of sheets of polyethylene for when you need the split lid?

No i had'nt because the hinges are welded on and might make more of a mess taking the lid off, good thought thou.

if ur not too fussed about it being plastic,why dont u use some aluminium channel its cheap and light can be glued screwd or rivited and comes in 60 mm web or even 57 and 63 depending on weather u wanted to go inside or outside

If you can get the matching or a suitable plastic you can weld it yourself using a soldering iron

Finished the esky lid yesterday, very happy with the result. The extra room whilst fishing will be welcome. 8mm cutting board, sikaflex and a stainless strip. Hope the sun does'nt distort it all.

A jigsaw to cut out shape and then an angle grinder to finish. Still have all my fingers.
