what is your live bait preference?

Hi all

Until now i had thought nothing would beat a live herring for catching pelagics but after spending the last few days at kingfisher bay jetty and trying live pike more i managed to land a good queenfish on one. Previously i only tried pike for big flathead. My question is what is your live bait preference and what fish have you caught on that bait? Eg live herring, pike, squid

There is no better live bait for Flathead than live Poddy Mullet.

With Flathead.... a bigger bait doesn't mean bigger fish either, I have caught meter long Flathead with 75mm poddy's.

Most Fish love Poddy Mullet and you can keep them at home in fresh water.

Bream, favourite shark bait. Not so much since they changed the size limits. (up on Bream, down on sharks)

In the estuaries mullet and banana prawns. Offshore slimy mackerel closely followed by yakkas.

Slimies seem to be favoured by fish but yakkas stay alive for longer.

A few years ago we used to put live squid down deep in the rainbow channel and caught some good size cod on them (photo of best one attatched). I tried some smallish sized live squid on the jetty last week where i had noticed lots of big flathead lays but didnt have any luck. Curious to know if anyone has got big flathead on live squid?

Im a fan of live pilchards, or freshly dead ones will instantly convert into reefies offshore. 3inch yakkas got us some kingfish recently once the topwater bite stopped
