Bass Are Roeing Up Already.

Hey Dinodadog

That is a good session you had there, good job on all the bass. Just a question, what does the term roeing up mean? I know what roe from mullet and other fish is, but when fish are roeing up does it make them go off the chew or do they produce it somehow? Sorry for the question, I am just a bit curious. 🙂

Cheers Hamish

Bass breed during the winter months. So at this time of year, bass (including those in impoundments) get ready to breed.

Females in particular can put on some serious weight as their eggs are developing and can feed quite aggressively.

Since they need acces to brackish water to breed, after a couple of months the females will reabsorb their eggs and the males their milt.

When they're ready to breed, it's not unsual to have the males leaking milt when you bring them into the boat.
