In by a nose, new PB

Got out early this morning for a fish in light rain, on my 5th cast I hooked this beauty. 

My previous PB was 90cm, this one took it by a nose at 93cm.

Not bad for a 4kg rod with 14lb braid and a 20lb leader. 

On that gear it's the 1st cod I've caught that I can say put up a very respectable fight.

That one had to go back unfortunately, it was too big. 

But I got a nice little 56cm one as well so it came home.

It's definitely been going off in the cod front all along the river. 

It's kind of funny, it's like there are seasons where different species take turns. In the cold months trout are out in big numbers, around Christmas time the yellow belly are the main species biting and late summer to winter seems to be the time of the cod. 

It makes it very enjoyable to have different species to target as the year progresses and keeps things interesting.
