Help needed with suspended baits please

Hi all,

I am going for a fish in the canals this weekend and would really appreciate some help with setting up suspended baits.

I am trying to set up my rigs so the bait stays were I cast it, but about 2 metres of the bottom. I can't just use balloons or other floats due to the current moving them out of the berley zone.

Can someone advise on how to do this in a way that still makes casting easy, and does not tangle up the line around the bait!

You should be able to use floats or balloons if you have a heavy enough sinker with a paternoster rig.

Heavy sinker ,2m trace and small float near bait ???

Never tried it but may work but current will probably pull it down anyhow.

I think the balloon -> trace -> hook -> trace -> sinker trick should work. All it comes down to is sinker size vs water current.

If you're going for big fish, then a big sinker shouldn't be too much of an issue. I used a similar rig off the fraser pier a few days ago, didn't move too much and landed me a nice mackarel
