where can I get good quality pichards

Hi all. I bought 2 blocks of pillies from bcf Lawnton for todays fishing and was severely let down by the quality of them. The moment I thawed some, they were so soft they went to mush just getting them on the hook. It was as if they had been thawed then refrozen again before I even bought them.

What brand do you think is the best and where do you get them from?

I get my pillies from the old Budds Bait and Tackle (now mossops) in Cleveland. Also plenty of good quality bait from these guys.

Looks like there are good bait shops in every area apart from around you, that sucks.

If you do not mind buying in bulk. Try Luc's Seafood at Morningside. They sell 15kg boxes. the last few lots have been excellent quality. Good enough to eat. Just bag them up into fishing quantities when you get them. Normally $5.50/kg

Generally, block pilchards will always be a bit mushy.

For a bit extra you can get IQF pillies, which have been individually frozen. These pilchards hold on the hook a lot better

Most good tackle shops stock these pillies and normally come in 1kg bags or 4kg boxes.

BCF IQF stuff is garbage generally. Actually most of the pillies i have had from bcf has been a bit average.

Tackle warehouse or the BP at wello point both stock the 2kg blocks of pillies in a blue bag, I use them as they tend to be very good quality.

Aussie seafood house at durack is where I go. They also have a store on the northside I think around narangba, and another one I think in capalaba. Check that on the web, never had a problem with them, buy all my bait and seafood, good price and great quality.

Seafood house have a shop at lawnton, but the tackle shop at carseldine on gym pie rd is good, they turn over plenty so always fresh.

They do fresh prawns, squid, salted mullet and bonito fillets and open at 4am weekends

Lucs are off my list, the last lot of pillies I got from there were stuff even a servo would be ashamed to sell. The supposed bonito I got there no better. I almost always look at the boxes before I say yeay or nay, bad day to have been in a hurry. NEVER again.

Last lot of pillies I bought were IQF's from The Tackle Shop at Carsaldine really top quality beat anything else that we had bought from anywhere else. Also another vote for Aussie Seafood House at Lawnton regularly buy stuff from there always fresh.
