Undersized & Female Crabs - $17K fine in Darra

A small win and good to see it came from a tip off. But at only about $165 per crab hardly a big deterrent.

Maybe an idea would be to fine them the same amount as an officers wage. That way there would be enough money to fund another officer to enforce the rules. Which IMO is the main reason more people are not caught, lack of officers.

Cheers

Mate thats nothing. The samoans at work always talk about taking female crabs.. they dont fish with rods they use 15ft nets and they always come to work with 80mm bream in soups and stuff.

The proof is out there. . Just no body cares!

Go the bongaree jetty on bribie island on a weekend night and watch just how many asians catch undersized fiah and quickly put it in their buckets. Ive had arguments with them because they dont know the size. So they reakon... bull$#*! Is what I think. Others dont have respect for our fishery. .

Rest assured Dinodog that the $17,000 will be paid. The perpetrator is the Que Hung Restaurant on Darra Station Rd. Darra. The restaurant has been operating successfully for over 20 years so the fine is basically equivalent to turnover for 1-2 weeks.

Fisheries inspectors raided several Darra restaurants on the same day in August 2013. Congratulations to Fisheries on their undercover research and on the successful execution of the search warrant. And a big thumbs up to the person who blew the whistle on these criminals.
