Heading to Warrabah NP next week to get away from it all. Taking the rods, Dan and his girl.

Hoping to get onto a cod or yella.

With so many people haunting my usual spots these days we've looked further afield. Hoping to find a quiet spot in the winter weather. They had snow at Guyra the other week, so here's hoping.

Will have a report after we return. Hopefully a good one.

Has anyone been there before ?

Checked the weather - it was -2 at 9am today.

So you might be ice fishing on this trip Brian. You are a braver man than me - once it drops below 20 Celsius around my place the fire goes on and tracky  dacks come out. I have experienced many below zero nights visiting Canberra for work and could never figure out why anyone would choose to live there. 

Good luck mate, and don’t forget the thermals! If you were a drinking man I would recommend a good rum but you will have to make do with the thermos.

I'm sure it got to at least 4 or 5 degrees by the afternoon .........

Just checked the barometer for the next 4 days - 1024. WooHoo.

Also checked my GPS fishing predictor (like a modern day fishing alamanac) and one of our days is a 4 stars out of 4 for fishing and the other days are 3 stars out of 4.

Got back at 10pm Thursday night. Quite a drive.

No fish, nearly no water.

I'll do up a report anyway with a a few pics and videos.

So we busted out of Brisbane starting at 3.50am. First stop at Warwick for a Zarraffa's coffee. Mmmm.

We meandered our way to Bingara where we took a look at some camping spots on the Gwydir River. They looked good and the river had some water, but Dan's girl Zoe was with us and at this point Dan wasn't keen on sharing a self dug toilet between the 3 of us. So off to Warrabah it was.

Thanks to a text from the wife we knew we'd left the butter behind so stopped at Manilla IGA where it cost me $16 for two tubs. Manilla describes its town as "The Fishermans Paradise". Manilla is on the "mighty"Namoi River.

They didn't mention that they also had to add water. There was not much about with only 2 waterholes having a shallow expanse of water in Warrabah National Park. Nevertheless we all cast out lures around for practice sake. I even managed to lose a top water frog when I gave it a real hoick at a decent looking snag. Unfortunately the loop was worn from casting and my frog disappeared into a lush bit of long grass the same colour as the frog.

The park is quite pretty with plenty of walking trails so Dan and Zoe took a couple of trails while I reminded myself in the car why I don't listen to Radio National anymore. I would have loved to trek the trails but it's a bugger that once you've walked down them you have to walk back up.

 

Anyway it was a great camp and the weather wasn't too bad - only getting down to 0 at night with some mild mid to high teens during the short days.

Would love to get back there after the drought has broken and there's plenty of river to fish.

Yes, there was only one other person show up for about half an hour. He left after I put on the dueling banjos music from Deliverance and starting doing a little jig whilst giving him the f/o stare.

Glad you had a nice trip mate and thanks for the report. you had no luck in those holes? they look pretty decent.

Magnificent country we live in. 

It's an excuse to go away again when there is more water about.
