Fat flat ones about

Got lucky today with a few nice ones on plastics in the shallows. 6lb braid, 8lb leader.

Hahahhahaaa yep, close to my PB. When I had it close to the boat I thought for sure I had a new pb … alas it was not to be

Some solid flatties there on some reasonably light line too. Do you find running the lighter leader helps?

Wow! Impressive catches.  Beats my 84cm I got up there a few months back. Also on 6lb mainline. Your pb must have been a monster!

Definitely helps with casting and feel. There is no structure where I fish so they can’t really bust me off if I make sure my drag is set right.  Rarely get busted off but after each fish I catch i carefully check my leader and fix even the smallest nick.

What Type of leader do you use? 

Recently  had a bust off on 15 lb mono leader and am searching for the right one that can catch flatty and bream.

I use 8lb fluorocarbon leader. Berkeley vanish I think

Most fish don't break the leader, it's all down to the structure and how the fish use it. 

Different types of leader can make a big difference too, soft gets more takes but hard leader can be necessary if the ground is a bit sharp. 

Fine twist wire or even kevlar can sometimes make a big difference too.
