Brisbane River Luderick?

Hi all

Who here has caught a luderick in the Brisbane River before? I've been trying to find some info on catching them in the river but so far only have heard of them being caught in cast nets around the port.

Yep. Benno got one in the cast net at Merthyr Park one night about 3 years ago.

I have caught a couple in the Pine River fishing with yabbies for whiting, so no reason they wouldn’t be in the Brizzie.

Thanks Brian and Steve. That is a nice luderick there. I think as Winter is supposed to be the 'time' to fish for them I will try and give it a go in the coming weeks.

We have some good weed growing in the lake at Oysterworld. I would be keen to give that a try down at the port.

other than the one @ellicat highlighted above, i have caught two others in the cast net, one in breakfast creek and the other up near yeronga, both about the same as the one above.

 

they definitely are in there, not sure if anyone targets them specifically in the upper reaches, i know they do around the port of bris ramp rock walls.

This is where I think I'll start. Interesting to see you have caught them upstream as well.

Have only caught as cast net by catch teneriff/breaky creek.

I think not many reports as targetting Luderick mean means different type of bait compared to your bread and butter species in the river, so this limits your catch options.

Thanks Hweebe. I know a spot in the river to get cabbage or weed of some sort but not sure if it is still there since the floods. 

Also, for anyone who has done luderick fishing - is the weight of your quill/pencil float a big deal? I was thinking of buying a 20 and 10 grams float for one heavier and one lighter rod.
