queensland jig head modification

Hi guys anyone used nail polish to paint jig heads? Want to know if the nail polish smell deters the fish or if it becomes inert after it has dried.

I used to touch up hard bodies with nail polish for the fresh. No residual odour.

You can also buy pre colored jigheads if you like, though most of these colors are pretty generic.

I've been thru the pained vs unpainted jigheads quite a bit.

Records show that there is no discernible difference over nearly two years of working plastics in the rivers and inshore / bay fishing.

These days I only use plain lead jigs unless they are HWS type, I paint the lead on those bright orange and insert them into the head of prawn plastics. This is now the only time I bother with paint on them.

I still have a few of them.....they are only suitable for completely surface presentations....soft plastics will keep them afloat as they are very bouyant.

They were ok for skimming bugs across the surface, but you lost out on casting length with them.

Primarily I used them in the flood zones behind the mangroves or amongst sparse mangroves with some success.

These days I opt for using unweighted worm hooks and fish deeper into the timber.

Yeah, cool. I think they're definitely designed for finesse fishing skinny water  in the sticks for smaller species like bream, bass, EP, etc.

I've used it a bit,a lot of people down the river use it too, especially red for getting that reluctant bite.

But 90% of the time if I need to colour a jig head I either heat and dip it in a jig head powder or use spray paint if I'm in a rush.

The jig head paint last the longest, but if you loose them at a respectable rate then paint is fine if not the hardest wearing.

Nail polished however is great if you want to change colours to match or contrast jig heads.

I do the same with lead fish, any of those methods work pretty much the same.
